Fleurent's early flurry keys Nor'easters in 8-0 shutout of Suffolk

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Captain Trevor Fleurent matched a school record with four goals -- all in the first period -- to power the University of New England to an 8-0 shutout of Suffolk University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action Thursday night (Dec. 1) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters picked up their third win in four starts to improve to 4-3-1 (4-2-1 CCC), while the Rams slipped to 3-6-2 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play.

Fleurent's four-goal evening tied the school single-game record he has a share of, as does his brother Brady Fleurent and Jared Melman '15. Trevor Fleurent added an assist to finish with five points, and Brady Fleurent set-up four goals to tie the school's single-game mark for assists.

Samuel Michaud, Dylan Bengtson, Blaise Healy and Liam Neuman chipped in one goal apiece for the Nor'easters, who more than doubled Suffolk's output in shots (50-23).

Tate Sproxton earned the shutout in goal for UNE, totaling 23 saves.

Trevor Fleurent set the tone for the Nor'easters early, putting home a shot from the low slot after his brother had dug the puck out from behind the cage [WATCH].  

Trevor Fleurent doubled UNE's lead almost six minutes later when he converted from a crowd in front of the cage [WATCH]. 

The Nor'easters would then score consecutive power-play goals to push the cushion to 4-0. Michaud rifled home a wrist shot at 11:02 of the frame [WATCH], and then Trevor Fleurent recorded a hat-trick when he went top shelf after a rush into the offensive zone [WATCH].

Fleurent's four-goal evening was capped 37 seconds before the end of the stanza when he converted after UNE had won a face-off from the left circle [WATCH].

Bengtson roofed a wrist shot from the left circle at 4:21 of the second to make the score 6-0 [WATCH], before Healy scored on the power play to give UNE a 7-0 bulge [WATCH].

Neuman completed the scoring for the evening with just six seconds remaining, notching his first collegiate tally as UNE recorded its fourth power-play marker of the game [WATCH].

The Nor'easters will host Curry College Saturday evening for a CCC showdown starting at 7 p.m.
