Bowdoin's third period earns Polar Bears a 5-3 win over UNE

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Austin Ricci broke a 3-3 tie early in the third period, and Cody Todesco added an empty-net goal in the final minute to give Bowdoin College a 5-3 victory over the University of New England in non-conference men's ice hockey action Tuesday evening (Nov. 22) at Sid Watson Arena.

Samuel Michaud and Armand Uomoleale each had a big evening in UNE's setback, combining for six points with a goal and two assists apiece. Ian Rodden had the other tally for the Nor'easters (3-3-1).

For Bowdoin (2-1-0), Todesco finished with a pair of markers, while Ricci, Matthew Lison and Thomas Dunleavy each scored once.

With his team trailing 1-0, Michaud evened the score with UNE on a 5-on-3 power play. Blaise Healy sent a shot on-goal, and Michaud was there on the right doorstep to clean up the play.

Dunleavy would score less than two minutes later to give the Polar Bears a 2-1 lead heading into first intermission.

Continuing his recent hot streak, Uomoleale drew the Nor'easters even just 18 seconds into the middle frame when he converted a feed from Michaud after UNE controlled the opening face-off and moved the puck into its offensive zone.

Rodden would give UNE a 3-2 lead at 8:19 of the second, one-timing a pass by Michaud from the slot.

That one-goal cushion was short-lived by the Nor'easters, though, as Todesco scored his first of the evening one minute later.

UNE had the better side in the shot department, finishing with a 36-29 advantage.

Joe Noonan finished with 24 stops for the Nor'easters, while his counterpart, Erick Wurman had 33 for Bowdoin.

The Nor'easters are idle for more than a week until they host Suffolk University for a Commonwealth Coast Conference tilt on Thursday, Dec. 1.
