Two 1st-half tallies lift Curry over UNE, 2-1

Box Score

MILTON, Mass. -- Goals in the 1st and 29th minutes proved enough to get Curry College a 2-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's soccer result against the University of New England on Saturday (Oct. 8) at Walter Katz Field.

Steven DePina wasted little time putting the Colonels (5-8-1, 1-3-1 CCC) on the board, breaking though in just 19 seconds. Christian Mancini added to the lead later in the opening half, during which the host posted an 8-1 advantage in shots.

The Nor'easters (2-7-4, 0-4-1 CCC) upped the pressure in the 2nd period, racking up a 10-2 cushion in shots, and split the gap in the 82nd minute on a goal by Ryan Stephens. But the visitors could not find the equalizer before time expired.

Between the pipes for both teams, Mike Russo-Penta backstopped Curry with six stops, and Elijah Leverett made seven saves in the UNE cage.

Big Blue will play a non-league match at Colby College on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.).
