BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Ryan Stephens scored in the first half and Nick Paine added a second-half goal to give the University of New England a 2-0 non-conference win over the University of Maine Farmington in men's soccer action Tuesday night (Oct. 4) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The triumph halted a nine-game winless streak for the Nor'easters, who improved to 2-6-4 on the season. The Beavers suffered their seventh consecutive setback to dip to 2-8-0.

Stephens gave UNE the margin for victory in the 23rd minute, receiving a feed from the center of the field from Jose Escamilla and taking a few touches before directing a low shot from 16 yards away just inside the left post.

Paine doubled the Nor'easters' margin on a beautiful goal in the 59th minute, heading home a corner kick service by Lee Esposito. Esposito struck the ball from the right flag and connected with Paine, who had raced to the goal mouth from the top of the box.

Nate Delesdernier made the lead stand up, finishing with five saves to register his first collegiate victory. UNE had the better part of the stat sheet, topping UMF in both shots (16-7) and corner kicks (6-0).

Ronie Morales was credited with five stops for the Beavers, who play a North Atlantic Conference match Saturday at Castleton University.

Next up for UNE is a Commonwealth Coast Conference road game Saturday at Curry College.
