BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Noah Martins scored with 5:44 remaining to give the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team a 2-1 win over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match played in chilly conditions Tuesday night (Oct. 25) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The Leopards will be the second seed for the upcoming CCC Championship and will take an 11-3-4 overall record (7-1-1 CCC) into Saturday's quarterfinal-round match versus Curry College.

With the score tied 1-1 and the possibility of overtime looming, Martins notched his conference-leading 13th marker and third game-winner. After UNE goalkeeper Nate Delesdernier punted to midfield, Alec Watkinson won the ball and headed it toward the top of the box. Martins outraced a Nor'easter defender and beat Delesdernier, who had come off the goal line to challenge the play.

Trailing 1-0, UNE had tied the score on a goal by Nick Paine in the 67th minute. Wentworth attempted to clear a Nor'easter throw-in but Dexter Doucet headed the ball to Paine, who lobbed a high shot from right-of-center near the top of the box into the upper left corner of the goal.

Wentworth notched the lone marker of the first half when Emmet Basaca slotted the ball across the box from the right side to Watkinson, who was set-up near the left of the goal mouth. Watkinson one-timed the feed with his right foot just inside the far post to get the visitors on the scoreboard in the 37th minute.

Joe Schallmo made just one stop for the Leopards, but it was a big one as he sprawled to knock away a scoring bid by Doucet in the 78th minute that would have given the Nor'easters a 2-1 lead.

The Nor'easters conclude their season with a 3-11-4 record, 1-7-1 in conference play.
