Big first half helps Nor'easters blow past UMF

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of New England Nor'easters scored four first-half on its way to a 5-0 shutout of the University of Maine Farmington in non-conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon (Sept. 6) at Robert Leib Field.

The victory was the second in as many starts in 2015 for the Nor'easters. The match was the season-opener for the Beavers.

Jessica Meader gave UNE all the scoring it would need, scoring on a breakaway in the 15th minute. Brionne Turcotte gave the Nor'easters a 2-0 advantage 13 minutes later, cleaning up a rebound off a shot by Jackie Dickerson that struck the post. The goal was the first of Turcotte's career.

Big Blue tallied two more first-half goals to put the match away. Kara Hecker scored on a long bending corner kick, and then the sophomore midfielder connected with Becca Murphy, who found the back of the net for the second consecutive match.

The Nor'easters completed their scoring in the 59th minute when rookie Taylor Usko converted a header off a cross from Taylor Littlefield.

Brielle Robinson, Emily Ashman and Molly Early each saw time in goal for UNE. Robinson earned the victory. Sam Hatch had seven saves for the Beavers, who were outshot by a 29-6 margin.

UNE returns to action Wednesday with a non-conference game at Husson University (4 p.m.)
