Box ScorePhotos of UNE Women's Soccer vs. BowdoinBIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year Julia Patterson scored a goal in each half to help power the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 3-0 shutout of the University of New England in a non-conference women's soccer match Tuesday evening (Sept. 29) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Bowdoin improved its record to 4-2 on the season, while the Nor'easters lost for the first time in four matches to drop back to 6-3.
It looked as if the first half might end in a scoreless deadlock until Patterson received a through-ball from senior Sarah Wallace, took a few touches and drove a low shot inside the right post to give Bowdoin a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute.
The Polar Bears doubled their lead in the 79th minute when senior Kiersten Turner took a pass up the middle from classmate Jamie Hofstetter and slipped a shot into the left side of the goal.
Patterson tacked on her team-leading fifth marker with 6:21 remaining. Senior Maggie Godley sent a service in from the right side to Patterson, who headed the ball into the back of the net.
Senior Bridget McCarthy made six saves to register her third shutout of the season for Bowdoin. She made a brilliant stop in each half, parrying shots from UNE junior
Anna Michaud over the crossbar twice.
Junior
Brielle Robinson was equally as strong in goal for the Nor'easters, who were outshot 25-9. Robinson finished with a career-best 13 saves, including multiple diving stops of Bowdoin scoring chances.
Bowdoin returns to action Thursday with a 4 p.m. home match versus MIT. The Nor'easters are off until Saturday when they head to Nichols College for a Commonwealth Coast Conference match beginning at 3:30 p.m.
