BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England utilized solid defensive play and a goal in each half to claim a 2-0 win over Endicott College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer match Saturday afternoon (Sept. 12) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The victory improves the Nor'easters' overall ledger to 3-1 while opening CCC play with a victory. The Gulls fall to 1-3 overall, 0-1 in conference matches.

UNE got all the scoring it would need in the 15th minute when senior tri-captain Jackie Dickerson chipped a high shot from 35 yards out that tipped off the Endicott goalkeeper's fingers and into the net.

The Nor'easters received an insurance goal early in the second frame. Junior Maria Philbrick connected with first-year Taylor Usko, who tucked in a shot from close range for her second marker of the season.

UNE's defense played a strong match, limiting the Gulls to eight shots overall and just two on frame. Junior keeper Brielle Robinson needed a pair of saves to register her eighth career shutout. The Nor'easters led 12-8 in shots.

Sophomore Kristin Hartlage stopped five shots in 68:30 of playing time before giving way to classmate Caroline Armbruster.

Both squads return to action Tuesday with non-league contests. UNE travels to Wheaton College (4 p.m.), while the Gulls head to Wellesley College (4:30 p.m.).
