Box ScoreDUDLEY, Mass. -- The University of New England outscored Nichols College 8-2 after halftime, as the Nor'easters doubled-up the Bison for a 10-5 Commonwealth Coast Conference men's lacrosse victory Thursday afternoon (April 2) at Vendetti Field.
The win got the Nor'easters into the win column in conference play (1-2), while upping their overall mark to 5-6. Nichols dropped to 4-6 and is winless in CCC matches at 0-4.
Down by two (4-2) after Dylan Baer scored 4:42 into the third, the Nor'easters closed the frame with three unanswered goals to take the lead for good.
Dan Auger had a hand in all three markers, setting up
Remy Watt and then notching back-to-back goals to give UNE momentum heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth UNE outscored the hosts 5-1 to win going away. Watt and Nichols' Brian Hancock exchanged scores at the outset of the frame before Auger completed his hat-trick in front of a goal by
Sam Cloutier, giving the Nor'easters an 8-5 lead.
Keston Beauregard scored a pair of man-up goals in the final 2:53 to squelch any threat of a Nichols' comeback.
Auger and Cloutier finished with four points apiece to pace UNE.
John Dusel and
David Pearson combined for 15 saves in goal for Big Blue. Pearson was credited with the victory to even his ledger at 3-3.
Tyler Sikich had two goals to lead the way for the Bison. Goalkeeper James Kean totaled 17 stops defending the cage.
UNE held advantages in shots (41-30), ground balls (41-35) and face-off won (11-8) while successfully converting 23 of 27 clear attempts.
The Nor'easters are back in action Saturday when they head to Henniker, N.H. to take on New England College in a non-conference game beginning at 1 p.m.
