Mules notch non-league win over UNE, 18-9

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Derek Youngman, John Grimaldi, and Austin Sayre each scored three times to pace Colby College in an 18-9 men's lacrosse victory over the University of New England on Tuesday evening (Mar. 31) at the Big Blue Turf.

Winning their fourth in the last five outings, the Mules improve to 6-3 on the year. A third setback leaves the Nor'easters at 4-6 overall.

After UNE put the first two on the board, Colby responded with the next nine goals -- six different players had the Mules with a 6-2 edge after the 1st period.

The difference was 12-4 at the half and 17-5 through 45 minutes.

Thomas Brewster and Kevin Seiler added two goals apiece for Colby, while Austin Frank won 13-of-21 face-offs and scooped up a game-best seven ground balls. Tyler Will made seven stops during the initial 30 minutes to backstop the decision.

For the Nor'easters, Shamus Higginbottom and Tom Luttrell both tallied two goals, and Andrew Curro had a goal and two assists. Pat Reid picked up six ground balls. John Dusel and David Pearson made 11 and eight saves, respectively, as UNE was out-shot by a 59-29 margin.

The Mules visit No. 7 Middlebury College on Saturday (4 p.m.). UNE heads for Nichols College on Thursday (4 p.m.).
