The decision brings an end to a two-game skid for the Nor'easters (4-3), while the setback was the first of the season for the Huskies (2-1).
David Rubenstein led the way with three goals, and
Shamus Higginbottom and
Sam Cloutier added two each. Six others factoted in the scoring with a goal.
David Pearson made 11 saves for UNE, which ou-shot Southern Maine by a 38-32 margin.
For the Huskies, Austin Watts scored twice and Zach Bessette made eight stops in just under 51 minutes of work defending the USM net.
Southern Maine led 1-0 and 4-3 during the first half, but the Nor'easters seized a 5-4 edge at halftime.
Higginbottom started the second-half scoring 5:34 into the 3rd period, sparking a run of eight unanswered by UNE (making the lead 13-4) spanning into the early stages of the 4th frame.
Big Blue will be back in Biddeford on Wednesday (4 p.m.) to open up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play against Wentworth Institute of Technology.
