Box ScoreCLERMONT, Fla. -- Western Connecticut State University scored four times in the top of the 5th to extend a one-run lead on the way to an 8-3 win over the University of New England on Monday morning (Mar. 16) at the Dot Richardson Spring Softball Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.
Alle Sabith went 3-for-3 and scored twice to lead the Colonials (3-2), while Erin Weber, Julia Bocek, Nina Wojtkiewicz, and Alexandra LaFemina had two hits apiece. Like Sabith, Weber crossed home plate on two occasions and Michaela Roche had two RBI.
Sabith struck out five to get the complete-game win for WCSU, which, after falling behind 2-0 in the 1st, tallied one run in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings before taking control in the 5th frame.
For the Nor'easters (2-3),
Kelly Murphy had two hits and drove in all of the team's runs.
Adrienne Chase also recorded a pair of hits to support the offense.
Sara Pelkey took the loss in 4 1/3 innings of work in the circle.
