Seven-run inning vaults UNE past Owls, 11-6

Box Score

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The University of New England sent 10 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the top of the 5th inning to swing a three-run deficit towards an 11-6 win over Keene State College on Monday (Mar. 16) at the Dot Richardson Spring Softball Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st on a two-RBI single to right-center by Adrienne Chase, the Nor'easters (3-3) conceded three runs to the Owls (1-3) with two errors in the 2nd to fall behind.

A sacrifice fly by Chase leveled things at 3-3 in the 3rd, but Keene State answered with one in the bottom of the frame on a home run by Aliza Guerrero and added two in the 4th on RBI-singles by Shae Crosby and Heather Pelletier to go up, 6-3.

UNE recorded just four hits in the deciding stanza, from Meghan Bolano, Sydney Helmbrecht, Amanda Vallante, and Kelly Murphy, but each resulted in runners cross home plate.

Murphy, Vallante, and Abby Lambert each recorded three hits for the Nor'easters. Chase and Helmbrecht had two hits apiece; Chase and Murphy combined for five runs batted in. Lambert went the distance in the circle, striking out five.

Crosby tallied two hits and two runs scored for the Owls. Morgan Fallon also notched a pair of hits. Olivia Indorf took the loss, lasting just 1/3 of an inning in the 5th.
