Lambert powers Big Blue past MCLA, 6-2

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Abby Lambert surrendered one earned run over 5 2/3 innings to help lead the University of New England to a 6-2 win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Saturday (Mar. 14) at the Dot Richardson Spring Softball Games hosted by the U.S. National Training Center.

The Nor'easters (1-0) scored three runs in the top of the 1st, started with an RBI by Lambert on a bases-loaded play on the infield. UNE added one in the 2nd to go up 4-1, and made the difference 6-1 in the 5th inning.

Adrienne Chase had a pair of hits and two runs for Big Blue, and Sydney Helmbrecht scored twice.

For the Trailblazers (0-2), Abigail Lucas had two hits and drove in Rachel Quackenbush for one of the two runs she scored. In the circle, Amanda Meczywor struck out five in a losing effort.

After Lambert, who allowed four hits for UNE, Sara Pelkey worked four outs of scoreless relief.
