The Nor'easters (1-0-1, 1-0-0 NEHC) set the tone from the outset, as
Armand Uomoleale intercepted a pass in the Purple Knights' defensive zone and roofed a shot from the slot just 11 seconds into the contest. UNE struck again less than two minute later when
Jimmy Tich put home a rebound of a shot by
Dylan Bengston.
Ben Pearl then made it 3-0 with Big Blue on the power play, snapping in a wrist shot from the right circle.
UNE was not finished in the opening frame, however, as
Trevor Fleurent notched a marker at 10:01 and Pearl scored his second of the game with just under a minute to play.
Blaise Healy scored the lone goal of the second period, potting a wrist shot from the left point into the upper left corner of the cage.
The Nor'easters scored five more times in the final stanza to smash the school record for goals in a game.
Christian Rossetti and
Ryan Quinn tallied in the opening 5:59, followed by goals from
Tucker Ross, Bengston and Uomoleale in the closing 4:30.
Brady Fleurent had three assists to help the offense for UNE, which led 41-25 in shots. The Nor'easters took a total of eight penalties but were able to kill off each of St. Michael's seven power-play opportunities.
Mason Riley played the first two periods in goal for UNE, totaling 15 stops.
Joe Noonan came on to record 10 in the final 20 minutes.
All three Purple Knight goaltenders saw the ice, with Chris Johnson registering 26 saves in 48:51 of playing time. St. Michael's (0-1-0, 0-1-0) will take on the University of Southern Maine on the road tomorrow at 4 p.m.
