Box Score Postgame Interview Video Replay of Game-Winning GoalBIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior tri-captain
Jackie Dickerson (Windham, N.H.) scored on a breakaway with 18 seconds remaining to give the University of New England a trilling 2-1 win over Colby College in non-conference women's soccer action Tuesday night (Oct. 6) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Winners of five of their last six, the Nor'easters (8-3-0) defeated Colby for the second straight season after going 1-16 in the team's initial 17 meetings. The loss drops the Mules to 3-5-1.
Dickerson ran down a beautiful lead pass by fellow senior tri-captain
Kayla Hamel (Lewiston, Maine) and broke in behind the Mules' defense. Colby keeper Ashley Conley (Dedham, Mass.) came off the goal line to contest the breakaway, but Dickerson maneuvered around Conley and drove the ball into the net for her third game-winning goal of the season.
Dickerson's goal came just 1:31 after Colby had knotted the game at 1-all. First-year Katrina Holt (Seattle, Wash.) collected a pass over the top from sophomore Emily Martin (Bethesda, Md.) and flicked a shot into the net for her first collegiate goal.
The two teams had played scoreless soccer for the opening 72 minutes before junior
Jessica Meader (Scarborough, Maine) got the Nor'easters on the board when she one-timed a cross from the left side by classmate
Anna Michaud (Hampden, Maine).
Junior goalkeeper
Brielle Robinson (Monson, Mass.) totaled six saves for the Nor'easters, who held a 21-10 advantage in shots. Conley totaled eight stops for Colby.
Both teams return to conference play Saturday. The Mules head to Wesleyan University for a 1:30 start, while UNE hosts Western New England University at 1 p.m.
