Arboleda provides Wildcats with 1-0 win over UNE

Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year Byron Arboleda (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored in the 27th minute for the lone goal of the game, giving Johnson & Wales University a 1-0 non-conference men's soccer win over the University of New England Tuesday (Oct. 6) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

Arboleda notched his team-leading fifth marker of the year when he took a pass from sophomore Chris Schmid (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and pushed a left-footed shot near post from just inside the right side of the six. First-year Teagen Drake (Waterbury, Vt.) started the play and was credited with a secondary assist.

Arboleda would nearly make it 2-0 in the 60th minute, but UNE junior Elijah Leverett (North Yarmouth, Maine) came off his line to the top of the box and made a sliding save after Arboleda had broken in from the left side.

The Nor'easters' best scoring opportunity came in the 86th minute when first-year Sam Child (Falmouth, Mass.) directed a shot towards the Johnson & Wales goal, but a Wildcat defender cleared the ball away before it reached the goal line.

Senior Nick Tolman (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) had three saves to record the shutout for the Wildcats (8-4). Leverett had a busy game in goal for UNE, totaling seven stops.

The Nor'easters (2-9) are back in action Saturday at home when they face Western New England University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match starting at 3:30 p.m.
