Box ScoreDUDLEY, Mass. -- The University of New England scored a goal in each half on its way to a 2-0 shutout of Nichols College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer match played Saturday afternoon (Oct. 3) on the turf at Vendetti Field.
The victory improved the Nor'easters' overall mark to 7-3-0, while upping their CCC-best mark to a perfect 4-0. Nichols dropped to 2-8-1 in all matches and is winless in four conference games.
Becca Murphy got UNE on the scoreboard at 20:23 of the first frame, converting a pass from the left side by
Devon Wolfenden for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The Nor'easters, who outshot Nichols 10-1 over the opening 45 minutes, would carry that 1-0 advantage into intermission.
UNE received an insurance goal in the 59th minute when Wolfenden found
Edie Pallozzi, who knocked home her fourth goal of the season.
Brielle Robinson needed just one save to record the shutout for the Nor'easters, who held a commanding 23-3 advantage in shots. Kelly English had a busy afternoon in goal for Nichols, totaling 10 stops.
UNE is back in action Tuesday when Colby College comes to Biddeford for a non-conference match. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
