PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Rhode Island College captured the 1st and 3rd sets by a margin of 25-18, but needed extra points in the 5th (18-16) to secure a 3-2 decision over the University of New England on Friday evening (Oct. 2) as women's volleyball action continued at the Wildcat Classic on the campus of Johnson & Wales University.

The Nor'easters (3-7) edged the Anchorwomen (9-5) in the 2nd frame, 26-24, and then took the 4th at 25-23.

Courtney Lambrese put down a career-best 21 kills for UNE, in addition to 10 digs, three solo blocks, and a pair of aces. Grayson Szczepaniak added 12 winners and Brooke Gibbons tallied 28 assists.

Big Blue resumes play on Saturday morning (10 a.m.) against host Johnson & Wales, followed by another match versus the University of Southern Maine (12 p.m.).
