Lindsey Thomsen and
Eleni Bautz, as well as first-year
Kayla Burgess, all won two events for the University of New England in a 173-83 triumph over Elm College in women's swimming action on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 31).
In total, the Nor'easters (6-2) captured 10 of 12 individual races and both relays.
Also getting in the win column for Big Blue were seniors
Kelly Dolyak,
Kiera O'Donnell, and
Emily Zeimetz, and sophomore
Emily Fellows.
The Blazers (1-11) received both of their victories from Ashlee Connors in the 50- and 100-meter backstroke events (34.55 and 1:18.04).
Burgess touched the wall first in the closest race of the day (50 butterfly), posting a time of 33.37 to edge Zeimetz by .08 seconds. The rookie also took the 100 butterfly (1:14.16).
Bautz claimed the 50 freestyle in 30.77 -- good for a +0.23 cushion ahead Erika Aponte from Elms. Bautz earlier won the 100 freestyle in 1:08.39.
Thomsen clocked times of 37.60 and 1:23.48 to take the 50 and 100 breaststroke swims, respectively. O'Donnell (11:13.02 - 800 freestyle), Dolyak (2:26.92 - 200 freestyle), Zeimetz (1:15.79 - 100 individual medley), and Fellows (5:20.61 - 400 freestyle) rounded out the winning performances for the Nor'easters.
Burgess, Dolyak, Thomsen, and Zeimetz combined for victorious showing in the relay events.
UNE will compete at The Maine Event (hosted by Bates College) next Saturday.
