Box ScoreQUINCY, Mass. --
Jackie Dickerson scored with 5:28 remaining in the second overtime period to lift the University of New England to a 1-0 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action Saturday afternoon (Sept. 27) at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
With the win the Nor'easters improve to 6-2 on the season, 2-1 in conference play. The Lions fall to 4-7 overall, 1-2 in CCC matches.
The match was a tightly-contested affair the entire way, with neither team able to get the ball into the net until Dickerson's golden goal nearly 105 minutes into the game. Dickerson slipped a shot from the top of the box just inside the right post to send Big Blue home victorious.
Lindsey Monaco was credited with an assist on the play.
The two squads had very few quality scoring opportunities prior to that, with the exception of when UNE's
Becca Murphy blasted a shot off the crossbar just before halftime.
Eastern Nazarene held a slight advantage in both shots (12-11) and corner kicks (4-3).
Brielle Robinson recorded the shutout in goal for UNE -- her first of the season and fourth career.
The Nor'easters are idle until next Saturday (Oct. 4) when they head to Springfield, Mass. to take on Western New England University for a CCC match starting at 2:30 p.m.
