Garnick's heroics hand Nor'easters first CCC win

Box Score

QUINCY, Mass. -- Tyler Garnick scored with 3:52 left in double overtime to provide the University of New England with a thrilling 1-0 win over Eastern Nazarene College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's soccer match played Saturday afternoon (Sept. 27) at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The victory was the first conference triumph of the season for the Nor'easters (1-2 CCC), who climbed over the .500 mark overall at 4-3-1. The host Lions fell to 4-5-0, 0-3 in CCC play.

Just when it appeared as if the game would end as a scoreless deadlock, Matthew Christie found Garnick at the top of the box, and Garnick took several touches before firing a shot into the net to end the contest.

Eastern Nazarene held a 14-10 advantage in shots in regulation before UNE out-shot the home team 6-3 in extra time.

Big Blue goalkeeper Aidan McParland collected eight saves to register shutout number 12 for his career. His counterpart, Jake Johnson, had three stops for the Lions.

The Nor'easters return to action Wednesday when they head to Worcester, Mass. for a 6 p.m. non-conference game at Clark University.
