Reigning CCC champs taken down by Big Blue

Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Junior Jackie Dickerson and first-year Becca Murphy provided the scoring, and the University of New England held off a late comeback bid by Endicott College to take a 2-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win Saturday afternoon (Sept. 13) at Endicott Stadium.

The victory keeps the Nor'easters unbeaten (4-0, 1-0 CCC) on the season, while avenging an 8-1 setback to the Gulls on Senior Day last year. Last year's CCC champion, Endicott now stands at 2-2-1 overall, 0-1 in conference play. UNE is off to its best start since winning its first four contests of the 2011 campaign.

Big Blue jumped out to an early 1-0 in the 15th minute when sophomore Taylor Littlefield played the ball up the field, allowing Dickerson to run on to it and direct the ball into the left side of the goal after Endicott keeper Katie Donnelly had come off her line to challenge Dickerson.

The Nor'easters, who would take that one-goal cushion into the second half, doubled their margin in the 75th minute as Becca Murphy registered an unassisted goal, which proved to be the game-winner. The marker was Murphy's second game-winner of the week after the rookie provided the lone goal of the match in UNE's 1-0 shutout of Husson University.

Paige Marinelli got the hosts on the board less than five minutes later, converting a feed from Hannah Schneidenbach at 79:14. The Gulls would push for the equalizer over the final 10 minutes, but Big Blue fended off any hope of an Endicott comeback.

Sophomore Brielle Robinson made nine stops in goal for the Nor'easters, who trailed in shots, 22-6. Donnnelly totaled one stop for Gulls.

The Nor'easters will look to push their win streak to five Tuesday (Sept. 16) when they head to Waterville for a 4 p.m. non-conference match at Colby College.
