Gulls open CCC play with 2-0 shutout of UNE

BEVERLY, Mass. -- The Endicott College Gulls scored a goal in each half to earn a 2-0 shutout of the University of New England in each team's Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener played under the lights Saturday evening (Sept. 13) at Endicott Stadium.

The victory evened the Gulls' record at 2-2-1 overall, while the Nor'easters suffered their first loss of the season to drop to 2-1-1.

Kyle Bisceglia set-up Diego Slobotzky in the 34th minute to give the Gulls a 1-0 advantage heading into intermission. Slobotzky, who had come into the game off the bench, weaved hs way around a pair of UNE defenders before driving a low shot into the net.

Shintaroh Itoh took advantage of a Zach Rizzo feed to double Endicott's margin with just over 20 minutes remaining in the contest to complete the scoring.

The Nor'easters' best scoring bid of the evening came in the 56th minute when junior Tyler Garnick broke in behind the defense but rattled a shot off the frame.

Alex Jorge needed three saves to record the shutout in goal for the Gulls, who led 20-13 in shots. Senior Aidan McParland was credited with five stops for UNE.

The Nor'easters' next match is this Wednesday (Sept. 17) versus Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Kick-off time at Barbara J. Hazard Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
