Keene State survives opening set in win over UNE

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Keene State College needed an extra point to get through the 1st set against the University of New England, 26-24, and then finished off 25-22 and 25-17 decisions in the ensuing frames to sweep the non-conference women's volleyball match Friday afternoon (Sep. 12) as the Wildcat Classic began on the campus of Johnson & Wales University.

Angela Silveri led the Owls (3-6) with nine kills and 10 digs, while Alexis Michal and Brooke Bell supported the balanced attack with 15 and 11 assists, repsectively. In addition to six kills, Madeleine Nossiff was involved with four of the team's seven blocks.

Sophomore Grayson Szczepaniak hit at a .444 clip and had 10 kills for the Nor'easters (2-4). Senior Leah Janelle added seven winners, and first-year Kristen Falcinelli tallied 18 assists. Sophomore Nikki Mathewson registered 12 digs.

Later in the evening, Keene State defeated the host Wildcats and UNE fell to Amherst College.
