Becca Murphy scored the lone goal of contest Wednesday evening (Sep. 10) in the 53rd minute, lifting the University of New England women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Husson University in non-conference action at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Murphy's second tally of the season came with a touch at the right post, after classmate
Edie Pallozzi beat her defender down the left side and sent a low cross through the middle of the 6-yard box.
The Nor'easters are off to their best start since 2011, now with a record of 3-0. Big Blue has topped the Eagles (2-2) in each of the last 13 meetings between the teams, and has won all eight matches ever played in Biddeford over the years.
Shots were 11-1 in favor of UNE during the 1st half, but just two attempts were on target. The hosts continued to push forward and control play after intermission, and finished with a 26-2 spread.
Sophomore
Brielle Robinson only needed to make one save in the 2nd half to preserve the combined shutout for the Nor'easters. Classmate
Emily Richard just watched one Husson shot go wide over the opening 45 minutes.
The Eagles, who head for Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Sunday (12 p.m.), got six stops out of junior goalie Anna Wolterbeek.
Big Blue opens up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday (4 p.m.) with a visit to Endicott College.
