Hazard Field.
The Nor'easters, who won their third consecutive meeting between the two teams, extended their season-opening unbeaten streak to three matches in improving their record to 2-0-1. The contest was the first of the year for the Beavers (0-1).
UNE wasted little time getting into the scoring column, coming up with enough offense for the victory in the ninth minute. First-year
Nick Paine directed a shot toward the UMF goal that was blocked, but classmate
Dexter Doucet came up with the deflection, took a touch to the right, and deposited a low drive into the net from just inside the top of the box.
Big Blue would double its lead in the 27th minute to complete the first-half scoring when graduate student
Matthew Christie collected a Beaver turnover in their defensive box and fired a low shot from 12 yards out inside the right post.
The Nor'easters increased their lead to 3-0 with less than seven minutes on the clock as junior
Will Bushey converted a free kick from outside the box.
UNE topped Farmington in shots (23-4) and corner kicks (9-2). Senior goalkeeper
Aidan McParland played the first half to earn the win. Junior
Nate Diffin relieved McParland and was credited with Big Blue's lone save of the afternoon.
Sophomore Ronie Morales came up with nine stops for the Beavers, who will be seeking their first win Saturday (Sept. 13) when they travel to Emerson College for a 4 p.m. game.
The Nor'easters will open Commonwealth Coast Conference play that same day when they head to Beverly, Mass. to take on Endicott College in a 7 p.m. kick-off.
