STANDISH, Maine -- Saint Joseph's College of Maine produced 18 runs on 22 hits en route to a 7-2, 11-2 doubleheader sweep of University of New England in non-conference softball action Tuesday evening (April 22) at Bailey Field.

The sweep gave the Monks (30-4) their fifth consecutive 30-win season, while the Nor'easters dropped to 22-14 with one regular-season date left on their schedule.

In game one the Monks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and never looked back. Gleason knocked in the run in the first, and St. Joe's took advantage of a pair of UNE errors to score two unearned runs to complement a RBI single by Jennifer Murphy in the second.

The Nor'easters would get on the scoreboard in the top of the third when Allie Frazier singled to lead off the frame. After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt, Frazier came home on a double to right-center by Amanda Vaudreuil. The run batted in pushed Vaudreuil's season total to 37 -- the most in a single season in more than 20 years.

St. Joe's got that run back right away in the home half of the inning on a Laura Jordan RBI single, then added another single run in the bottom of the fourth when Theresa Hendrix plated Molly Mack.

Trailing 6-1, UNE converted a pair of SJC errors into an unearned run in the sixth.

The Monks completed the scoring in the bottom of the inning when Megen Pollini had a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to score Hendrix.

Jordan, Gleason, Hendrix, Murphy and Melissa Mayhew each had two hits to fuel the Monks' 11-hit attack, while Vaudreuil laced two doubles for UNE.

Jordan was the one of three pitchers for St. Joe's. She went the first three innings and allowed three hits and one earned run.

Katelyn Austin (5-3) took the loss for UNE. She surrendered six earned runs over six innings, walking four and striking out a pair (5-3).

The Monks put the second game away early, scoring three times in the first, twice in the second, and six more in the third to build a 11-1 bulge. The game was halted in the fifth due to the eight-run rule.

Mayhew and Gleason were once again repeat hitters for St. Joe's, each finding the hit column twice. Jordan had a three-run double in the Monks' big six-run third. Carla Tripp had two hits and two runs scored for the Monks.

Rae-Marie Copan went the first three innings to improve her record to 13-2. She allowed two hits and zero walks while striking out a pair.

Jess Lemos knocked in both runs for UNE with a sacrifice fly in the second and a run-scoring grounder in the fourth.

Lauren Doneski (9-5) took the loss for the Nor'easters, who are scheduled to wrap up their regular season tomorrow when they host Bowdoin College at 3:30 p.m.
