NEWPORT, R.I. -- Amanda Vaudreuil had a double and three-run homer to help power the University of New England to an 8-2 win over Salve Regina University to earn a split of a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader Saturday afternoon (March 29) at Toppa Field.

The Seahawks rode the five-hit pitching of Nicole Parry to take an 8-2 win in the opener.

The Nor'easters (9-7, 3-1 CCC) struck for four runs in the top of the third inning of game two to take a lead they would never relinquish. UNE took advantage of a pair of walks and two Salve errors to score four unearned runs with just one hit.

After the Seahawks pushed across a single run on a bases-loaded walk in the home half of the inning, Big Blue put the game out of reach on Vaudreuil's three-run jack in the top of the sixth. Jess Lemos tacked on another run for UNE with a single in the seventh.

Adrienne Chase had three of UNE's 11 hits, while Jessica Potter added a pair of singles. Kelly Murphy scored twice for the Nor'easters, who got a complete game pitching performance from Abby Lambert. Lambert scattered eight hits and struck out four to raise her record to 4-2.

Parry kept the Nor'easters off-stride in game one, allowing just one earned run and whiffing three. Offensively, the Seahawks (3-9, 1-1) utilized a four-run second inning to take control early. Lauren Fountain plated the first run with a groundout, then Katie Napier followed with a RBI single. Lexi Soucie completed the outburst with a two-run single to left-center.

UNE scratched across a single run in the top of the fourth when Vaudreuil led off with an infield single, moved to third when Chase reached on a two-base outfield error, then later scored on a base hit by Murphy.

Salve Regina got that run back in the bottom of the frame and put the game away one inning later on a three-run homer by Kara O'Riley.

The Nor'easters would score a single run in their final at-bat. Potter led off with a single and moved to second on a walk to Ali Stanley. Lemos would drive in Potter with a single to center.

Murphy and Lemos each had a pair of hits for the Nor'easters. Lauren Doneski (3-3) was the pitcher of record for UNE. She gave up six hits, four walks, and was charged with four earned runs.

Napier had two hits and two RBI for Salve.

UNE was scheduled to play Roger Williams University tomorrow (March 30), but that game has been postponed due to the forecast of heavy rain overnight. A make-up date has yet to be announced.
