Hollenshade give Seahawks OT win over Nor'easters

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Chad Hollenshade scored 41 seconds into overtime to give Salve Regina University an 8-7 victory over University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon (March 29) at Gaudet Middle School.

The victory gives the Seahawks nine in 10 outings thus far (2-1 CCC), while the Nor'easters drop to 3-7 overall, 0-2 in conference play.

Hollenshade's game-winner came after UNE's Dan Auger scored off a feed from Connor Leggett with 1:41 left in regulation to force the extra period.

Sharp Jones scored half of Salve's eight goals to power the home team's offense. Dan Parks chipped in a pair of goals and Curtis McKeon had the other for the Seahawks.

Auger was the lone repeat goal-scorer for UNE. Leggett, Sam Cloutier, Dan O'Gorman and J.T. Oliver accounted for the rest of Big Blue's attack.

The contest with a tight affair the entire way. The score was tied 3-3 at halftime and 5-5 after three quarters. Jones gave the Seahawks a 6-5 lead at the 9:30 mark of the fourth, but Auger responded less than a minute later to knot the game at six. Jones would score again with 4:59 on the clock only to see Auger come up with a clutch marker with 1:41 left to force overtime.

Hollenshade's game-winner came in a man-up situation for the Seahawks, as UNE was whistled for a tripping penalty at the end of regulation.

Andrew Watkins was strong in goal for Salve Regina, making a total of 19 saves. His counterpart, Joe Medel, was impressive as well, stopping 17 shots for Big Blue.

McKeon was 10 of 15 on the draw and had six ground balls for Salve. Steven Russell had a solid game defensively with six ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Auger had a team-best six ground balls and O'Gorman had five for UNE.

The Nor'easters will look to halt their four-game losing streak Tuesday (April 1) when they head to Waterville to take on Colby College at 4 p.m.
