Western Connecticut holds off Nor'easters, 10-8

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Western Connecticut State University scored seven times in the middle two periods and held on down the stretch for a 10-8 victory over the University of New England in non-conference men's lacrosse action Wednesday morning (Mar. 19) at Gill Stadium on the campus of McDaniel College.

The Colonials even their record at 3-3 with the win; the Nor'easters slip back to 3-4 overall.

UNE scored the last two of the 1st quarter to gain a one-goal edge, but WCSU opened the 2nd with back-to-back goals to take the lead for good. The margin was still one (4-3) at halftime.

It was 5-4 midway through the 3rd when the Colonials tallied the last three markers of the frame and opened the 4th with another to assume a 9-4 advantage.

Big Blue senior Nick Gross and first-year Dan Auger each found the back of the cage twice in the final stanza to make things interesting, but it was not enough.

Western Connecticut got three goals from John Foristall and two more from Jake Pantani. Ryan Foster had a pair of assists, and Kevin Seery made 13 stops between the pipes.

Junior Chris Baker made his first career start in goal for the Nor'easters, totaling 16 saves. Classmate Patrick Wolfe added three assists to help the offense.

UNE will visit Eastern Connecticut State University on its way back to Maine for a 2 p.m. match on Thursday.
