Box ScoreBABSON PARK, Mass. -- A pair of goals in both the 2nd and 3rd periods paced No. 3 Babson College to a 4-1 ECAC East men's ice hockey victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 6) at the Babson Skating Center.
The Beavers extend their best start in school history to 10-0 (6-0 ECAC East), while the Nor'easters fall back to 3-8 overall (2-5 ECAC East).
Charlie Ackerman paced Babson with three points, including the first and third goals for the hosts. Bill Seligman and Joe DePietto tallied the other markers, while Mike Driscoll and Mike Vollmin each had two assists.
UNE struck first, just 21 seconds into the contest, as
Christian Cordier scored with assists going to
Jared Melman and
Ian Rodden. The Beavers had not allowed a 1st-period goal over the opening nine games, nor had they trailed at any point during those contests.
Colby Drost posted 17 of his 39 saves in the frame keep Big Blue ahead after 20 minutes.
Ackerman evened things up 7:30 into the middle period, and Seligman put the hosts on top with a little more than five minutes left in the 2nd stanza.
In the 3rd, Ackerman (5:28) and DePietto (10:09) added to the cushion, and Jamie Murray capped a 25-save effort to seal his 10th decision.
Babson will close out the first semester on Wednesday (7 p.m.) against Salem State University. The Nor'easters are off until January 3 (3 p.m.) when SUNY Potsdam visits Biddeford.
