Huff provides Middlebury with tourney title

Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior forward Connor Huff converted an offensive rebound with 1.2 seconds remaining to give Middlebury College a 69-67 win over the University of New England in the championship game of the 2014 Ramada Roundball Invitational on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 16) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

After UNE junior guard Devin Thompson had tied the game at 67 on a pair of free throws with 0:16 on the clock, Middlebury senior forward Dylan Sinnickson drove down the left side of the lane and was forced into a difficult off-balance shot. Huff came up with the rebound and converted the put-back from close range. The Nor'easters were then unable to get a shot off before time expired.

Sinnickson -- the tournament MVP -- posted his second double-double of the event with 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead the way for the Panthers (2-0). Senior forward Hunter Merryman contributed 15 points and seven boards en route to an all-tournament team selection, while sophomore guard Matt St. Amour added 10 points.

Thompson and sophomore guard Jean-Luc Parker were named to the all-tournament team for UNE (1-1). Thompson led all scorers with a career-high 31 points, including a 13-for-13 effort from the free throw line. He also made four treys, hauled in six rebounds and had four assists. Parker added nine points and six boards.

The game featured 10 ties and 14 lead changes. Middlebury had a 52-38 advantage on the glass, which led to 16 second-chance points.

The Nor'easters' next game is Wednesday (Nov. 19) when they make the short trip to Gorham to take on the University of Southern Maine (7:30 p.m.). The Panthers will take part in the Bridgewater State Invitational next weekend.
