Becca Murphy scored a goal in each half and assisted on another to help propel the University of New England women's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout of Western New England University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match Saturday afternoon (Oct. 4) at Suprenant Field.
With the win the Nor'easters (7-2, 3-1 CCC) trade places with Western New England (4-5-3, 2-1-1) atop the conference standings. UNE is now 6-3-2 in the all-time series with the Golden Bears.
UNE jumped out to an early lead and was dominant most of the afternoon. Murphy opened the scoring in the 18th minute, putting home a feed from
Jackie Dickerson for her team-high sixth goal and fourth game-winner of the season.
Dickerson made it 2-0 just five minutes later when she found the back of the net with an assist from Murphy.Â
Murphy pushed Big Blue's lead to 3-0 early in the second half, then
Taylor Littlefield scored her first collegiate goal in the 77th minute to conclude the offensive output.
Brielle Robinson played the opening 76:22 in goal to record the win. She stopped four Western New England shots before being replaced by
Emily Richard.
Briana Kubick made six saves for the Golden Bears, who were outshot 21-6 on the afternoon.
