Box ScoreMILTON, Mass. -- Nick Gilman scored with 0:01 remaining in the game to give Curry College a 1-0 double overtime men's soccer win over the University of New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular-season finale for both teams Tuesday evening (Oct. 28) at Walter M. Katz Field.
The victory moves the Colonels (10-8-1, 4-5-0 CCC) ahead of the Nor'easters in the conference standings. UNE will take a 9-6-2 (3-5-1 CCC) record into the CCC Championship.
Gilman's improbable goal was a rocket from 15 yards out that sailed into the upper right-hand corner of the goal. Curry had nearly won the match early in the first overtime period when Rolando Montero's one-timer was denied by
Aidan McParland on a diving stop and the follow-up from Matt Contnoir was blocked and cleared away by a UNE defender.
McParland had 12 saves for the Nor'easters, while Dan Johnson had five for Curry. The Colonels outshot UNE 23-11 for the contest, including an 8-3 advantage in overtime.
Despite the difficult setback, the Nor'easters will still be part of the CCC Championship when it gets underway Saturday. UNE will be seeded either No. 7 or No. 8, depending upon the outcome of the Salve Regina University/Western New England University match to be played tomorrow afternoon.
