Nor'easters blank Nichols 4-0 on Senior Day

Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's soccer team got two goals in each half on its way to a 4-0 shutout of Nichols College on Senior Day (Oct. 18) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

With the win, the Nor'easters (10-2-1) reach double digits in victories for the fifth time in the last seven seasons, while improving their Commonwealth Coast Conference mark to 4-1-1. The Bison slip below the .500 mark at 7-8-0 (2-4-0 CCC).

UNE took control early, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute senior Margaret Palmer converted a header off a corner kick sent into play by classmate Lindsey Monaco.

The advantage doubled just under five mnutes before the half. First-year Hanna Sihler sent a pass to junior Tori Field, who took a few touches and directed a low shot from the top left-corner of the box inside the near post.

Blue Blue tallied its third goal on a virtual instant replay of its initial marker. Monaco lofted a corner kick in front of the goal, but this time it was sophomore Anna Michaud headed the ball into the back of the net. Michaud's conversion gave UNE a 3-0 bulge in the 56th minute.

Junior Jackie Dickerson wrapped up the scoring in the 66th minute when she drove in a low shot from the right side of the box. Sophomore Maria Philbrick was credited with an assist on the play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brielle Robinson played the opening 63:01 in goal to record the win. She made two saves before giving way to sophomore Emily Richard and senior Sarah Papapietro.

Nichols junior Kelly English had five saves in 63:01 of playing time, and senior Sarah Whitestone recorded a stop in the remaining time.

Both teams conclude their regular-season home schedule Wednesday with 4 p.m. conference matches. Nichols hosts Western New England University and UNE entertains Salve Regina University.
