Box Score
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -- First-year
Trevor Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) scored a pair of second-period goals to help power the University of New England Nor'easters to a 5-3 win over host Saint Michael's College in a ECAC East men's ice hockey game played Saturday (Jan. 25) at Cairns Arena.
The win is the third in the last four starts for the Nor'easters, now 8-11-1 overall and 5-8-0 in league play. The Purple Knights fall to 2-14-1 (1-10-1 ECAC East).
The Nor'easters started quickly off the work of first-year
Chris Harlow. Harlow tipped in a pass from classmate
Danny Antonoff to give Big Blue a 1-0 lead just 1:03 into the game.
St. Michael's would draw even midway through the period when junior Jeremy Wong notched goal number nine to close the scoring for the period.
After sophomore Kevin Altidoor gave the Purple Knights a 2-1 lead at the 2:29 mark, the Nor'easters closed the pivotal second frame with three consecutive goals to take control. Fleurent sandwiched a pair of markers around one from first-year
Blaise Healy to put UNE on top, 4-2. Fleurent's second goal and Healy's tally came just 29 seconds apart. Junior
Jared Melman had a hand in each of Fleurent's scores.
The Purple Knights would make things interesting in the final period, closing to within one (4-3) on first-year Shawn Morrow's first career goal.
Melman put the game away on an empty-net goal with eight seconds remaining in the contest.
Junior goaltender
Colby Drost improved his record to 8-6-1 with a 37-save performance. Sophomore Michael Comitini had 19 for St. Michael's.
The Nor'easters will look to keep the momentum going next Friday when they host rival University of Southern Maine. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. at the Harold Alfond Forum.
