UNE regains winning way with 3-1 win over WNE

SPRINGFIELD, Maine -- Junior Leah Janelle posted a team-high 14 kills to power the visiting University of New England women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Western New England University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match played Saturday (Sept. 28) afternoon at the Alumni Healthy Living Center.

Set scores were 25-23, 10-25, 27-25 and 25-21. The Nor'easters now stand at 7-5 overall (1-1 CCC), while the Golden Bears drop to 10-5 (0-2) after starting the season with 10 consecutive victories.

Senior Maria Kuehl played a strong all-around match for UNE, totaling 27 assists, 13 digs and six kills. Classmate Angie Brunette finished with 12 kills against just one attack error, while first-year Erika Sawicki had eight kills. Rookie Grayson Szczepaniak recorded three blocks and senior libero Kirsta Adie dug out 13 balls.

Kelsey Armstrong recorded a match-high 17 kills to lead the way for Western New England.

The Nor'easters return to action Tuesday (Oct. 1) when they host Bates College for a non-league match beginning at 7 p.m. at the Harold Alfond Forum.
