LYNDONVILLE, Vt. -- Junior Sean Goodrich scored 3:06 into overtime for the lone tally of the match, giving the University of New England men's soccer team a hard-fought 1-0 decision over Lyndon State College in a non-conference match played Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 25) at the Lyndon Athletic Field.
The win snaps a three-game losing skid for the Nor'easters, who improve to 4-3-1 overall, including a 4-1-1 mark in non-conference play. The Hornets fall to 0-6-1 on the season.
Goodrich knocked home a rebound of a saved shot by sophomore Finn Ducker, who had raced down the left side and fired a shot far-post. Lyndon keeper Jason Marks was able to get a hand on it, but Goodrich was waiting to register his third goal in as many matches.
Sophomore Nate Diffin recorded the shutout in his first collegiate start. He made seven stops for UNE, which led in both shots (24-16) and corner kicks (7-2).
Marks was credited with 13 saves for the Hornets.
Big Blue returns to the pitch Saturday (Sept. 28) with a Commonwealth Coast Conference home match versus Curry College. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
