Nor'easters rally for 5-set victory over Wildcats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The University of New England women's volleyball team captured sets four and five on Saturday (Sep. 14) to escape with a 3-2 non-conference win over Johnson & Wales University in the Wildcat Classic. The set scores were 25-21, 22-25, 21-25, 25-19, and 15-12.

Senior Angie Brunette tallied a match-best 14 kills for the Nor'easters (4-4), while junior Leah Janelle added 11 kills and 14 digs. Junior Rachel McGahie and first-year Grayson Szczepaniak each hit nine winners, and both McGahie and senior Maria Kuehl (42 assists) picked up 19 digs.

Brunette was selected to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the four matches of the event.

Casey Kirk (8 kills, 7 blocks, 2 aces) led the way for the Wildcats (0-8) with 14 points in the match.

UNE returns to action on Monday (6:30 p.m.) for a home date with Saint Joseph's College.
