Big Blue stays unbeaten with shutout of UMF

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of New England men's soccer team improved to 3-0-1 on the season following a 2-0 triumph over the University of Maine Farmington on Wednesday afternoon (Sep. 11) at Prescott Field.

The decision continues UNE's best start in the last quarter-century.

A pair of zeros...
Wednesday's 2-0 win over UMaine Farmington marked the second straight outing in which UNE has posted a shutout. It's the third consecutive season that the program has recorded back-to-back shutouts, and fifth time in the last six years. In 2009, Big Blue did it on two separate occasions.
Big Blue received goals from senior Kyle McGlone and sophomore Tyler Garnick on the offensive end, while junior Aidan McParland needed to make just one save to register his third shutout of the year. McParland has yet to concede a goal in 335 minutes of action.

UNE held the Beavers (1-1-0) without a shot attempt in the 1st half, and got on the board in the 32nd minute when McGlone put in the rebound on a shot from sophomore Finn Ducker.

Shots on target were limited both ways throughout the contest, but the Nor'easters managed to double their margin in the 63rd minute when junior Anthony Frangione connected a lengthy pass to a streaking Garnick and Garnick touched a shot around the UMF keeper.

UNE, which finished with a 12-7 edge in total shots, travels to Nichols College on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) to begin Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.

Derek Reilly made one save for UMaine Farmington, which hosts Lyndon State College next Tuesday.
