BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England and Maine Maritime Academy played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer in a mutual non-conference season-opener Friday (Aug. 30) under the lights at Ritchie Field.

The match was a tightly-contested defensive struggle, with the teams combining for just 23 total shots (MMA, 13-10). The host Mariners would have the lone two shots in overtime. The Nor'easters saw just one of their 10 attempts go on net for the match.

Junior Aidan McParland had seven saves to record his sixth career shutout for the Nor'easters. Jesse Perkins had one stop for MMA.

Big Blue will play its home-opener Wednesday (Sep. 4) when Fisher College comes to Biddeford for the first-ever meeting between the two squads. Start time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
