Golden Bears stay perfect in CCC with win over UNE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference champion Western New England University got five goals from Jon Bota on its way to a 20-4 win over the University of New England in a men's lacrosse match played Saturday (April 13) afternoon at Golden Bear Stadium.

The Golden Bears improve to 7-5 overall with an unblemished conference mark of 5-0. UNE drops to 9-4 for the season, 3-2 in CCC matches.

WNE got off to a quick start and never looked back. The Golden Bears led 8-1 after one quarter and 12-1 at the half.

Five players for Western New England had two goals apiece, including Adam Knapton, Sean Lawton, Owen Caruso, Jake Fishter and Dan McKenna. Knapton and Michael Donahue each had three assists.

For UNE, Geoff Bruno, Pat Wolfe, Nick Gross and Brett Levasseur each found the back of the cage. Tyler Thomas set-up two of Big Blue's goals.

The Golden Bears were a picture of efficiency on the attack, converting 20 of 39 shot attempts. WNE led in ground balls (41-27) and face-off wins (17-11).

Wolfe and Dan O'Gorman had five ground balls apiece to lead UNE. Goalkeepers Jay Letendre, John Dusel and Chris Baker combined to make nine saves, with seven credited to Dusel in 32:27 of playing time.

WNE's Brady Body worked the first three quarters between the pipes to earn the victory. He recorded 10 stops.

The Nor'easters will look to get back into the win column Tuesday when they host Endicott College Tuesday at 7 p.m.
