PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The University of New England rallied for three runs in the last inning to erase a one-run deficit and take a 4-2 win over Rhode Island College in the second game of a non-conference softball doubleheader Thursday (April 11) afternoon at Dayna A. Bazar Field.

RIC out-slugged the Nor'easters in the opening game of the twinbill to take a 10-6 victory.

Amanda Vallante had four hits and two runs on the afternoon to pace the UNE offense. Junior Allie Frazier and first-year Meghan Bolano each added three hits over the course of the two games for the Nor'easters (13-12-1).

For Rhode Island College (14-12), Stacy Pokora totaled four hits and four RBI, while Justina Thoma and Jessica Borden each finished with three hits.

Down 2-1 in the final frame of game two, Murphy led off with a single to right-center and moved to second when first-year Abby Lambert reached on a fielder's choice. After a failed sacrifice bunt attempt led to the first out, pinch-hitter Adrienne Chase singled to load the bases. Frazier followed singled to left to tie the game, then Vallante drove home the game-winner with a base hit to right. Bolano would plate a UNE insurance run with a two-out hit.

Lambert wriggled out of trouble in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the pitching win and up her record to 5-3. RIC loaded the bases with two outs, but Lambert got Pokora looking to end the threat. Lambert scattered seven hits while allowing just one earned run and striking out five.

RIC pounded out 16 hits in game one to help overcome an early 6-3 deficit. Trailing by three, the hosts leveled the score in the bottom of the third when Katelyn Sykora had a run-scoring single and Thoma produced a two-RBI double.

Rhode Island College would take the lead in the next inning with four runs on five hits. Thoma once again delivered a key hit, singling to center field to score a pair of runners. For the game, Thoma finished with three hits and five RBI.

The Nor'easters jumped on top early, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first. Bolano singled to right to get two across the plate.

After RIC responded with three in the home half of the frame, UNE struck once again in its next at-bat. Vallante got a run home with a base-hit, and junior Amanda Vaudreuil added a two-RBI single.

Emily Johnson improved her record to 7-2 for RIC, going the distance and allowing seven hits while fanning four. First-year starter Lauren Doneski (6-4) worked the first three innings for Big Blue before giving way to classmate Chelsea Damon.

The Nor'easters return to action with a pair of key Commonwealth Coast Conference home doubleheaders this weekend. UNE hosts Salve Regina University Saturday at 1 p.m. and Roger Williams University Sunday at noon.
