Box Score

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The University of New England scored twice in the top of the 1st inning on its way to a 3-1 victory Worcester State University at the Cape Coral Sports Complex Monday morning (Mar. 18) in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Softball Classic.

The Nor'easters (2-3) received a complete-game effort from first-year Chelsea Damon (Scarborough, Maine) in the circle, allowing seven hits and a pair of walks to move to 1-1 on the season.

A one-out double by junior Allie Frazier (Tewksbury, Mass.) set the stage for UNE to jump in front in the 1st, and senior Erin Grover (Biddeford, Maine) drew a walk to put two aboard. Senior Megan Gauger (South Paris, Maine) followed with a single that plated Frazier, and Grover later scored on a passed ball.

Big Blue made it 3-0 in the 3rd, as Grover led off with a double to left field and scored again when rookie Meghan Bolano put a one-out double into center.

The Lancers (1-2) got one back in the last half of the 4th, as Hannah Everson posted one of her two singles in the lead-off spot and a pinch runner eventually came around to score.

Everson fanned four UNE players in the circle for Worcester State, while giving up hits to eight different Nor'easters.
