Allie Frazier (Tewksbury, Mass.) tallied six runs batted in and first-year
Lauren Doneski (Waltham, Mass.) scattered just four hits in the circle to lead the University of New England to a 9-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth early Sunday morning (Mar. 17) at the Lee County Sports Complex in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Softball Classic.
The win was the first of young the season for the Nor'easters (1-2), while the Corsairs drop their season-opener (0-1).
Frazier had three hits to reach her RBI total, which matched the third-best single-game effort in the program's recent history. Sophomore
Adrienne Chase (Holden, Mass.) also recorded three hits. First-year
Jess Lemos (Chelmsford, Mass.) had two hits and scored three times. Junior
Kirstyn Tracey (Pawcatuck, Conn.) crossed the plate twice.
Doneski fanned three UMD batters against two walks in seven innings to pick up her first win of the season (1-0).
The Corsairs received hits from four different players, and one of them, Shannon Droney, scored the team's only run in the bottom of the 3rd.
Amanda McHugh was tagged with the loss, giving up three earned runs in five innings, along with six walks.
Frazier got things started in the top of the second, with a two-RBI single that drove in Lemos and Tracey. Senior
Casey Brigham (New London, Conn.) added to a 2-1 cushion in the 4th, knocking home Frazier with a hit to right.
After two more in the 5th to build a 5-1 edge, UNE tacked on four runs in the top of the 7th to put the game away.
The Nor'easters play Worcester State University (9 a.m.) and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (11 a.m.) on Monday morning in Florida.
