Mosby limits UNE in Pitt-Bradford shutout

Box Score

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Sydney Mosby tossed a one-hitter and walked one while striking out four to help the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford post a 7-0 triumph over the University of New England on Sunday (Mar. 17) at the Lee County Sports Complex as part of the Gene Cusic Collegiate Softball Classic.

The win levels the Panthers' record at 5-5, while the Nor'easters settled back to 1-3.

Mosby gave up a two-out walk to UNE senior Erin Gover (Biddeford, Maine) in the bottom of the 1st, and a single to first-year Jess Lemos (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the 3rd. Other than that, the UPB hurler allowed one baserunner on an error in the 5th.

Nor'easters first-year Abby Lambert (Brockton, Mass.) was nearly as effective through the initial five innings, letting just two hits, two walks, and one hit batter on base. Big Blue did manage to get out of a bases loaded threat in the top of the 4th to keep the game scoreless.

However, Pitt-Bradford broke the 0-0 tie in the 6th by plating six runs. An RBI-single to right field by Olivia Taylor put one on the board, and a two-RBI single to left by Alyssa Cunningham with then two out made the difference three. Meagan Lewis laced a two-RBI double to left-center on the next play, before Mosby aided her own cause with an RBI-single to left.

One more in the 7th provided the final margin.

Lambert struck out three in 5 1/3 innings for UNE.

Cunningham, Lewis, and Lauren Hogue each finished with two hits for the Panthers.
