UMass Boston tops Nor'easters, 6-1, in league play

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior Nathan Milam scored a pair of goals to help power the UMass Boston men's ice hockey team to a 6-1 win over University of New England in ECAC East action Friday evening (Dec. 6) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

With the victory, the Beacons improve to 5-1-2 overall, 2-1-2 in league play. The Nor'easters now stand at 3-7-1 overall, 1-5-0 in ECAC East action.

Milam added an assist to his two-goal performance to total three points. Sophomore Peter MacIntyre had a strong evening with a goal and three assists, while senior captain Travis Daniel had three assists to eclipse the 100-point plateau for his career. Sophomores Frankie DeAugustine and Kit Sitterly and first-year Tyler Bishop each found the scoring column for the Beacons, who held a commanding 49-23 advantage in shots on goal.

First-year Trevor Fleurent tallied his first collegiate goal to prevent the Nor'easters from being blanked.

The visiting Beacons led 1-0 after one as Milam went top shelf from the slot after breaking in behind the UNE defense.

UMass Boston would double its lead midway through the second frame when MacIntyre poked home the puck from the left doorstep.

A power-play goal by Sitterly at 18:21 of the period gave the Beacons a 3-0 cushion heading to the final frame.

UMass Boston scored three times over the initial 12:15 of the final period to put the game away. Milam had his second marker of the evening just 36 seconds in. That was followed by goals from DeAugustine and Bishop.

Fleurent got Big Blue on the board at the 14:49 mark. First-year Blaise Healy (Melrose, Mass.) controlled the puck behind the UMass Boston cage and found Fleurent in front, and the rookie forward swept in the feed from Healy.

Beacon sophomore goaltender Zach Andrews had 22 stops, including a pair of glove-save gems over the final two frames.

Starting goaltender Colby Drost had 38 saves for the Nor'easters before giving way to Craig Ryan, who came on to turn away five shots over the final 7:45.

Both teams hit the ice again tomorrow in league play. UMass Boston visits University of Southern Maine (4 p.m.) and the Nor'easters host nationally-ranked Babson College (4 p.m.).
