HOOKSETT, N.H. -- Behind three goals in the opening 23 minutes of action, the University of Massachusetts Boston won the PAL Stovepipe Tournament final over the University of New England men's ice hockey team, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 1) at the Ice Den Arena.

The Beacons (4-1-2) claimed the title of the event, which is hosted annually by Southern New Hampshire University, for the second straight year over UNE (3-6-1), after the Nor'easters took the crown against UMB in 2011-12.

Peter McIntyre recorded a hat trick, including both 1st-period goals, to lead the way for UMass Boston. Cody Dixon and Michael Kuhn also found the back of the net for the Beacons, who got three assists out of Kit Sitterley and 31 saves from Zach Andrews.

Big Blue made it 3-1 with six minutes gone in the 2nd period on a score by sophomore Cassidy April. First-year Connor Bates and junior Zeth Zielinski tallied assists on the play.

The UMB cushion was four (5-1) before UNE junior Jared Melman put another on the board midway through the 3rd. First-year Trevor Fleurent and junior Nick Kolb setup to scoring play.

Junior goalie Craig Ryan made 30 stops for the Nor'easters, who host the Beacons in an ECAC East League contest on Friday (7 p.m.).
