Nor'easters finish 10th at ECAC Championship

BRISTOL, R.I. -- With five runners in the top 91 individuals, the University of New England men's cross country team claimed 10th place out of 46 programs at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship, which was held Saturday (Nov. 9) at Colt State Park.

It was Big Blue's best finish in the race, better last year's performance by one position. The Nor'easters totaled 311 points on the day, led by sophomore CJ Vallie (27:02) and junior Shane Murphy (27:03) in 42nd and 43rd, respectively. First-year Paul Mangiafico (27:20 - 59th), senior DJ Raboin (27:40 - 78th), and junior Chad Lyons (27:52 - 91st) rounded out the UNE scoring.

Williams College captured the team title for the eighth time in nine seasons, registering an impressive 26 points. Tufts University (75), Amherst College (84), Colby College (141), Middlebury College (175), Bates College (188), Coast Guard Academy (244), Merchant Marine Academy (247), and Keene State (273) filled places two through nine in the final standings.

Setting the pace was Cole Townsend of Williams, circling the 8,000-meter course in 25:43.

UNE now has seven days to prepare for the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship (Nov. 16), which will be contested up the road in Gorham (hosted by Southern Maine).
